Barbie Townsend is the former director of bands at Raa Middle School in Tallahassee, Florida. Her current responsibilities involve her chauffeuring her daughter and balancing a growing private music studio. A native of Ormond Beach, Florida, Mrs. Townsend holds a Bachelor in Instrumental Music Education from the Florida State University. Before returning to Tallahassee in 2010, Mrs. Townsend student taught at Bayonet Point Middle School in New Port Richey, Florida under the supervision of Ms. Annette Greive. She served as director of bands at Swiss Point Middle School in Green Cove Springs, Florida before opening a brand new middle school in Wesley Chapel (near Tampa) named Dr. John Long Middle School. While serving as director of bands at JLMS, Mrs. Townsend also started and taught an orchestra program. She has taught private flute lessons for 16 years. Before graduating from the Florida State University, Mrs. Townsend was a member of the World Renowned Florida State University Marching Chiefs where she served as a row leader and Staff Administrator during her four years. It was during her tenure in the Marching Chiefs (2001-2004) that she met her husband, Joe (Hornz). She was also part of the Concert and Symphonic Bands at FSU. She loves going to skull session and football games to see all of her former students who are current Marching Chiefs! MCATDT!
